Herbert Lester Pentoney, 79, of 1209 Potomac Ave., Hagerstown, died Saturday, May 27, 2000, at his home.
    Born Aug. 13, 1920, in Brunswick, Md., he was the son of the late Charles Raymond and Lacy Viola Rankin Pentoney.
    He retired from the B&O Railroad.
 He served in the U.S. Army during World War II.
    He was a member of Park Road Bible Church.
 He was a member of Brotherhood Railroad Trainmen; Masonic Lodge of Brunswick; and American Legion Post 96 of Brunswick.
    He is survived by his wife, Rosalie A. Spence Pentoney; two daughters, Kathy Elaine Stewart of Jefferson, Md. and Karen Pentoney Lewis of Hagerstown; a son, Larry Eugene Pentoney of Hagerstown; 10 grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

    He was preceded in death by a son, George R. Pentoney; and a brother, Raymond M. Pentoney.
Services will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Minnich Funeral Home, 415 E. Wilson Blvd. in Hagerstown. Pastor Ron Key will officiate. Burial will be held at the convenience of the family.
    The family will receive friends Tuesday from 7 to 9 p.m. at the funeral home.
