2005 at Kline Hospice House. He was the
husband of Ruth V Martin
Born January 18, 36 in Brunswick, M. he was
the son of Ernest H and Ruth E Thomas Taylor
Mr. Taylor was a member of Calvary United
Methodist Church. He enjoyed hunting,
fishing, woodworking, hiking and ice skating.
He served his country in the U. S. Marine
Corp.
Surviving in addition to his wife are two
daughters Christine Lash and husband William
and Linda Staudenmeier and husband Robert, all
of Frederick, three grandchildren Alexis
Staudenmeier, Jason and Morgan Lash, two
brothers Kenneth Taylor of Emmitsburg and
Donald Taylor of Middletown, and two sisters
connie Grams of Rosemont and June Palmer of
Middletown.
The family will receive friends at the

Mrs. June J. "Nana"
(Allen) Kinna, 84, of Frederick, died
peacefully Wednesday evening, September 20,
2006, at Kline Hospice House, Mount Airy. She
was preceded in death by her husband, Luther
J. Kinna on December 25, 1989.
Born on June 13, 1922, in Brunswick, Md.,
she was the daughter of the late Harry D. and
Carrie (Wynkoop) Allen.
Mrs. Kinna was of the Methodist faith.
She was a graduate of Brunswick High School,
class of 1940. She was a devoted mother,
grandmother, great-grandmother and baby-sat
for various families throughout her lifetime.
She was affectionately known to all as either
"Nana June" or "Aunt June."
One of Mrs. Kinnas' favorite pastimes was
attending yard sales with her daughter.
Surviving are three children, Kandy (Carol)
Brown and husband Robert of Frederick, Jeffrey
L. Kinna and wife Sharon of Thurmont and Kelly
Burdette Farris and husband Scott of
Hagerstown; nine grandchildren, Robert Brown

Mrs. Kinna also leaves behind two special
nephews, Carroll Guy (Buddy) Strailman of
Boonsboro and Philip Heerd of Hedgesville,
W.Va.; several other nephews; and special
friends, Raymond Goodsell and wife Lillie, and
Joyce Grimes.

Mr. William James Buck,
30, of Brunswick, Md., passed away on
Thursday, September 14, 2006, at University of
Maryland Hospital.
Born December 22, 1975, in Johnstown,
Pa., he was the son of Thomas and Brenda
Boland of Brunswick.
William was a Brunswick High School graduate
and a member of the Eagles in Brunswick. He
also loved his dog, "Rafikie."
In addition to his loving parents, Thomas
and Brenda, he is survived by a brother,
Melvin Buck and wife Ladawn; a nephew, Gavin
Buck; a niece, Payton Buck; and grandparents,
Joyce and Cliffton Boland, all of Pa.
He is preceded in death by grandparents,
Charles and Roberta Boback and an uncle,
Ronald Boback.
A private memorial service will be held in
Pennsylvania at a later date.

89, of Charles Town, died Wednesday, Sept. 13,
2006, at Canterbury Center in Shepherdstown,
W.Va.
Born April 26, 1917, in Sandy Hook, Md.,
she was the daughter of the late George Virts
and Nellie Himes Virts Huffman.
She was preceded in death by her husband of 62
years, William Samuel Eagle, in 1998.
She was a graduate of Brunswick (Md.)
High School and the Beauticians School in
Woodstock, Va.
She was a retired hairdresser. She also
retired as a bookkeeper from Broker's Frozen
Food in Washington, D.C.
She attended the United Methodist Church.
She is survived by one daughter, Suzanne Eagle
Dillow of Charles Town; one son, Jeffrey Eagle
of Purcellville, Va.; two brothers, Robert
Virts of Jacksonville, Fla., and William
Huffman of Olney, Md.; five grandchildren; and
three great-grandchildren.
Services will be Saturday at 10 a.m. at
Bolivar United Methodist Church. The Rev.
Douglas Fraim will officiate. Burial will be
in the Reformed Cemetery in Middletown, Md.

Mr. James Alfred "Jim" Rice, 81, of
Walkersville, Md., died Tuesday, August 22,
2006, at Glade Valley Nursing and
Rehabilitation Center. He was the husband of
Geraldine Marie Jones Rice, his wife of 41
years.
Born January 13, 1925, in Brunswick, Md.,
he was the son of Howard Donaldson Rice Sr.
and Ida Virginia Shaw Rice.
Mr. Rice served his country in the U.S.
Army during World War II. He was employed as a
cartographer for 28 years with the State of
Maryland and also was the manager of the
Frederick Roller Rink from 1954 to 1968. Jim
was a member of the Walkersville Kiwanis,
where he was past secretary, past president
and past Lt. Governor; the Walkersville
Volunteer Fire Co., where he was past
secretary and past president; the Walkersville
Rescue Co., No.24, Woodsboro American Legion;
past member of AMVETS Post No.2; and past
Commander Disabled American Veterans.
In addition to his wife, he is survived
by three daughters, Patricia Ann Wentzel and
husband Adrian of Middletown, Rose Mary Cooper
and husband Don of Frederick and Lindy Lou
Gordon and husband Ralph of Florida; a son,
Alden Austin Rice and wife Lori of
Walkersville; six grandchildren, Chad W.

Temple in Brunswick. She was
also a tour guide for White
Star Bus Tours, where she made
many friends.

Sears based in Odenton. He was
a member of the Harley Owners
Group and enjoyed fishing.
Sharon was born in

1957, and was a daughter of
Leonard and Evelyn Louise
Walter Granger of Frederick.
She graduated in 1975 from
Frederick High School and
owned and operated Milestone
Leasing and Management based
in Middleton. She enjoyed
horseback riding, antiques,
gardening and crafts, and had
a strong love for animals.
Albie and Sharon had a
common interest in
motorcycles. Recently they
rode in a benefit ride
sponsored by the Shriners and
Moose Lodges to help with
children.

Institute of Health, Gene went
on to work for Central Tractor
in Frederick and then for D.W.
Ogg Equipment Company.
A former member of the
Brunswick Eagles and the
Brunswick Moose Lodge 1582,
Gene was an avid NASCAR fan
with Jeff Gordon being his
favorite driver. He enjoyed
WWE wrestling, inner-tubing on
the Potomac River and spending
time in Ocean City, Md.
Besides his loving wife,
Gene is survived by his

after a courageous four-year
battle with cancer.
He was the husband of the
late Janet L. Moore, who died
May 7, 2003.
Born July 15, 1948, in
Brunswick, he was the son of
the late Fred A. Moore Sr. and
Anna Lee Eury Moore Kidwiler.
Fred was a graduate of
Brunswick High School, class
of 1966. He had previously
been employed by Jenkins
Motors in Frederick, Md. Fred
looked forward each year to
his trips to Ocean City, Md.,
for the Maryland State
Firemen's Convention, which he
was briefly able to attend in
June. One of his proudest
moments was in March, when he
was recognized with an
honorary life membership in
the Brunswick Volunteer
Ambulance Co. 19, to which he
was so devoted. He also was a
member of Brunswick Moose
Lodge 1582 and Brunswick
Eagles Aerie 1136.
He is survived by his
fiance, Linda Lust of
Brunswick; two daughters,
Tiffani Moore of Brunswick and
Toni Baker and husband,
Melvin, of Harpers Ferry,

Institute of Pennsylvania (now

Bible) in 1938. Pastor Lucas
received the call to the
Gospel Ministry early in life
and responded to a full-time
commitment to that vocation in
October of 1933. He preached
many places and had many
interesting experiences as a
student minister. He was
assigned his first full-time
pastorate in 1938. Pastor
Lucas began his ministry in
the Maryland Conference of the
Churches of God and later
served many churches in the
East Pennsylvania Conference
from 1943, last serving the
Columbia Church of God from
1985 through 1993. Pastor
Lucas served on the Commission
of Missions and Church
Development and helped
established the Lititz First
Church of God. He was
president of the Conference in
1963 and had the privilege to
ordain six young men to the
Gospel Ministry, one of them
being his son, Thomas L.
Lucas. He served on the Board
of Trustees at the Church of
God Home in Carlisle, Pa., and
was secretary of that board
for six years. He also
represented his Conference as
a delegate to the sessions of
the General Conference of the
Churches of God on at least
five different occasions
between 1965 and 1986.

County School Board. She was a member of the Brownsville

Born Friday, May 10, 1929, in Brunswick, Md., he was
the son of the late Roy Turner Logue and Pearl McQuay Logue.
He retired as postmaster from the U.S. Postal Service
in Williamsport in 1989 after 40 years of service.
A veteran of the Korean War, he served in the U.S. Army
10th Headquarters from 1951 to 1953. He was awarded the
Bronze Star for meritorious service upon his discharge.
He was a member of Morris Frock American Legion Post
42, NARFE, AARP and the Postmasters Union.
He was a member of Virginia Avenue Church of God, and
had been a previous member of Christ Fellowship Assembly of
God Church, having served as a deacon for many years.
Bud's only desire was to make certain his family was
ready to meet their Lord, and he questioned each one while
lying in the hospital.
He is survived by his loving wife of 54 years, Shirley
Ann (Yantz) Logue; two daughters, Debra Anthony and husband,
David, of Hagerstown, and Tamara Reisinger and husband,
Mark, of Mechanicsburg, Pa.; three grandsons, Brent Anthony
of Raleigh, N.C., Scott Anthony and wife, Jennifer, of
Hagerstown, and Derek Reisinger of Mechanicsburg; one
granddaughter, Marsha Reisinger of Mechanicsburg; two
sisters, Jean Troxell of Frederick, Md., and Betty Runner

Catherine Bohrer Harrington, 82, of Jefferson, died
Saturday, April 29, 2006 at Vindobona Nursing Home.
She was born on May 5, 1923 in Brunswick and was the
daughter of the late Ira Irvin and Edna Cannon Bohrer.
She was the wife of B. Richard Harrington of Jefferson.
After graduating from Brunswick High School in 1941, she
worked for New York Life Insurance Company in Washington,
D.C.
In addition to her husband, she is survived by son,
Timothy Lee Harrington and wife Paula of Norman, Okla.;
daughter, Debra Charlene Stohr of Bear, Del.;
granddaughters, Liz Harrington and Marie Torbert; grandson,
Brandon Robert Stohr; great-granddaughter Kailyn Torbert;
and brother, Jay W. Main Jr. of Brunswick. She was preceded
in death by her brother, William Irvin Bohrer.
She was of the Protestant faith, and a member of Naomi
Chapter 20, Order of the Eastern Star at Stanton, Del. She
was one of the founding members of the Brunswick Arts
Association, and enjoyed a wide range of artistic painting
and handicraft work.

Margaret McDade, 89, formerly of Naples, Florida, died
Friday, March 24 at the Copper Ridge Nursing Home,
Sykesville. She was the wife of Thomas Lemuel McDade, who
died March 16, 1993.
Born October 15, 1916 in Petersville, she was a
daughter of the late Harry D. and Alma Jane Henderson Axline.
Mrs. McDade was a member of St. Pauls Evangelical
Lutheran Church, Burkittsville and the Brunswick Chapter #97
Order of Eastern Star.
Surviving are two sisters, Nora Coates of Knoxville and
Kathleen Bartgis and husband Nick of Mt. Airy; and a
brother, David Axline of Apex, N.C. Many nieces and nephews
also survive. She was preceded in death by a sister, Marion
Snoots; and four brothers, Theodore Axline, Charles Axline,
Lee Axline and Eugene Axline.

He was a retired conductor with the B & O Railroad at
Brunswick with 47 years of service.
He was a member of the Brunswick First Church of God, former
Sunday School Superintendent for a number of years and
served on the Board of Trustees. He was a 1936 graduate of
Brunswick High School. Mr. Lucas was a life member of Loyal
Order of Moose Lodge No. 1582 at Brunswick, former member of
Brunswick Volunteer Fire Department, member of B & O
Veterans Association and an avid gardener.
Surviving is his wife, Earlene Barger Byrn Lucas at
home; one sister, Zetta M. Smith of Brunswick; and one

On February 11, 2006, Donald J. Rohrback, of
Forest Hill, died at his home. He was 83.
Mr. Rohrback was born in Knoxville, Md., on September
11, 1922. He was the son of the late Jesse P. and Daisy
Rohrback (nee Cooper).
He was a graduate of Brunswick High School and a US Navy Air
Corp veteran of World War II. He retired in 1981 after 40
years of service with the State of Maryland -- State Highway
Administration as a Highway Engineer. He was a member of the
American Legion and the Maryland Highway Association. He
enjoyed reading, birds, traveling, fishing and airplanes.
Mr. Rohrback is survived by his wife of 59 years,
Bertha P. Rohrback (nee Wilson); children Wanda Raver and
her husband Wayne, of Baltimore, Sondra Law and her husband
Tom of Smithsburg, Linda Gibson and her husband Mike,
Baltimore, and Don Rohrback and his wife Judi, Forest Hill;

at Waynesboro Memorial Hospital. He was the fiance of
Heather Jacobson of Waynesboro.
Born on March 4, 1978, in Frederick, he was the son of
Charles David "Dave" McLane and wife Diane of Brunswick and
Pamela Dawson Keeling and husband Pat of Knoxville. He was a
sales rep for 84 Lumber. Mr. McLane was a 1996 graduate of
Brunswick where he excelled in sports playing soccer and was
a varsity baseball and basketball player for 4 years. He
also played baseball at Bluefield State in W.Va., and was a
Maryland Terps fan. Most of all, Charlie loved spending time
with his family and friends.
Surviving in addition to his fiancee and parents are a
son, Patryk Torin McLane and stepson Lukas Griffin Jacobson
both of Waynesboro; 2 sisters, Shelley McLane of Rehoboth
Beach, Del., and Shawn McLane of Lovettsville; a brother,
Willie McLane of Knoxville; 2 step brothers, Michael Webber
and fiancee Heather Walker of Hagerstown and Alex Keeling
and wife Jennifer of Elizabeth, N.C.; a stepsister, Chiara
Keeling of Knoxville; a grandmother, Evelyn Marie McLane of
Brunswick; aunts and uncles, Monica Cady, Donna Poffinberger,
Peggy Griffiths, Tim McLane, Dan "Duck" McLane and Don
Dawson. Mr. McLane was preceded in death by grandparents,
Charles David McLane Sr., Mildred Painter Dawson and Donald
"Shelly" Dawson.

on Monday, February 6, at Stauffer Funeral Home, 1100 N.
Maple Avenue, Brunswick. A Memorial Mass will be offered at
2:00 p.m. on Tuesday, February 7, at St. Mary's Catholic

Thelma Elmeda Hovermale DeVol, 94, of Cary, NC died on
Sunday, January 15, 2006 at Wakemed Cary hospital. A native
of Brunswick, MD, she was born on September 12, 1911 to the
late Howard Burman and Victoria Wilson Hovermale. In
addition to her parents, her husband, Morris B. DeVol,
brother, Howard W. Hovermale and sister, Ashby E. Schlulze
also preceded her in death.
Thelma was the kind of person you knew had "never met a
stranger". She was someone who freely gave to others,
regardless of whether they deserved it or not, her total and
unconditional love. Slow to criticize and devoted to her
family; it is these qualities we will remember far above her
worldly accomplishments.
During her career, Thelma worked for the US government
as a secretary for the Department of Labor. She was
affiliated with the Methodist faith and was an avid animal
lover.
Surviving are her sister-in-law, Rita D. Hovermale of Cary;
niece, Laura B. Harris and husband, Josh Harris of Clayton;
nephews, Howard S. Hovermale and wife, Amy Hovermale of
Angier and Gary R. Hovermale and wife, Sue of Wadesboro.
Also surviving are seven great-nieces and great-nephews and
her beloved Yorkshire Terrier, "Happy", who brought so much
joy and companionship into her life.
A memorial service will be held at 5 p.m. on Tuesday,
January 17, 2006 at the chapel of Brown-Wynne Funeral home,
200 SE Maynard Road, Cary. The Reverend Dr. H. William Green
will officiate. Burial will follow at a later date in Park
Heights Cemetery, Brunswick, MD.
The family will receive friends on hour prior to the
memorial service, beginning at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, January
17, 2006 at the funeral home.

Ray Ervin Lucas Sr., 86, of Brunswick, Md.,
died peacefully Wednesday, January 18, 2006, at Frederick
Memorial Hospital.
He was born in Stanley, Va., on May 26, 1919, and was
the son of the late Lee and Ruth Alger Lucas.
He was a retired leadman at PEPCO of Rockville, Md., for 29
years.
He was a member of the Brownsville Church of the
Brethren. He was a member of Brunswick Lodge No. 191 of A.F.
& A.M. and was a 32nd degree Mason of the Scottish Rite of
Free Masonry, SJ. He was a lifetime member of the Loyal
Order of Moose Lodge No. 1582 at Brunswick and a lifetime
member of Brunswick Fire Department. He enjoyed camping,
square dancing and spending time with his family and
friends.
He is survived by his wife, Tannie Lucas at home; one
son, Ray Lucas Jr. and wife Linda of Frederick, Md.; one
sister, Zettie Smith of Brunswick; two brothers, Preston
Lucas of Columbia, Pa., and Leonard Lucas of Brunswick; two
granddaughters, Angela McCormick and husband Dave of
Frederick, and Lesley Quesada and husband Bernie of
Waynesboro, Pa.; three great-grandchildren, Conor and
Caitlin McCormick and Joseph Quesada; two brothers-in-law,
Jesse Thompson and wife JoAnn and Raymond Thompson and wife
Phyllis, all of Brunswick; one sister-in-law, Libby Brust of
Rohrersville, Md.; and many nieces, nephews, cousins and
close friends.
He was preceded in death by one brother, Raymond Lucas;
and two sisters, Sally Itnyre and Lena Young.
Services will be on Sunday, January 22, 2006, at 2 p.m. at
the Brownsville Church of the Brethren with the Rev. Dan
Johnson officiating. Interment will be in Brownsville
Heights Cemetery.
The family will receive friends at the John T. Williams
Funeral Home, 100 Petersville Road, Brunswick, Md., on
Saturday from 2 to 4 and 7 to 9 p.m. A Masonic Memorial will
be held at the funeral home on Saturday at 7:30 p.m.

Dennis Clifford Loy, 51, of Hagerstown, died
Sat., Jan. 14, at his home. He was the husband of Robin
Baulch Loy.
Born in Frederick, Aug. 16, 1954, he was the son of
Malcolm Lee and Hattie Smith Loy of Jefferson. He was a
member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Jefferson, and was
employed as a long-haul truck driver.
Surviving, besides his wife and parents, are one
daughter, Kelli Sue Dick and husband B.J. of Fayetteville,
Pa.; three sisters, Diana Price and husband Michael of
Fayetteville, Pa., Sharon Maloney and husband Ray of
Middletown and Marsha Sowers and husband Darren of
Brunswick; one stepgrandson, Johnathan Dick; and several
cousins, nieces and nephews.
The family will receive friends on Mon., Jan. 16, at
the Donald B. Thompson Funeral Home, 31 E. Main St.,
Middletown, from 6 to 9 p.m. Funeral services will be held

Mr. Franklin Carvel Smith, 70, of Knoxville

He was the husband of Catherine Tyler Smith, his wife of 49
years.
Born on March 2, 1935, in Jefferson, he was the son of
the late Millard Samuel Sr. and Vivian Trego Smith. Mr.
Smith was a life long dairy farmer. He was a member of St.
Mark's Episcopal Church in Petersville as well as the
Frederick County Farm Bureau, Brunswick Co-Op,
Maryland-Virginia Milk Producers, past president of the
Frederick County Board of Election Supervisors, Ruritan Club
in Petersville, Sons of the American Legion in Brunswick,
the Brunswick Eagles and the United Democrats of Frederick
County. He and his wife enjoyed country music and going to
dances as well as spending time with his grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to his wife are children: Sheree
Hemp and husband Doug of Jefferson, Marvin Smith and friend
Pam Moulton of Frederick, Anita Smith of Yellow Springs, and
Craig Smith of Frederick; grandchildren: Laura, Jessica, K.C.
and Patience; sisters, Helen F. Smith and Gladys V. Smith
both of Rosemont. Mr. Smith was preceded in death by a

Mrs. Marie Elizabeth Huffer, 78, of
Knoxville, entered into rest on Friday, December 23, 2005,
at her residence. She was the wife of Harry L. "Rainey"
Huffer, her husband of 58 years.
Born on December 10, 1927, in Washington, DC, she was
the daughter of the late Elias and Marie Smith Kidwiler.
Mrs. Huffer was a 1945 graduate of Brunswick High School and
attended the University of Maryland Nursing School in 1946.
She was a member of the First United Methodist Church in
Brunswick where she was a Sunday School teacher, choir
member and past President and active of the United Methodist
Women. Marie was an active 53 year member and past President
of the Worthy Patrons of the Eastern Star. She also a member
of the Lioness Club of Brunswick. She was a beloved wife,
mother, grandmother and great grandmother and will be
remembered by many other family and friends.
Surviving are 2 children: Vicki Lynn Sowers and husband
Michael of Burkettsville, and David Alan Huffer and wife
Kelly of Lovettsville; 4 grandchildren: Craig Michael Sowers
and wife Kate, Kimberly Rochelle Sowers and friend John
David Robinson all of Frederick, Miranda Lee Huffer and
Samantha Irene Huffer both of Lovettsville; a great
grandson, Aidan James Sowers of Frederick. Mrs. Huffer was
preceded in death by her sister, Nellie Virginia Hartman and
one brother.

Haven-York. She was the wife of the late Ivan T. "Cap" Kable.
Mrs. Kable was born on January 13, 1921 in Brunswick,
Md. Daughter of the late G. Maynard and Amanda (Kefauver)
Eagle.
She was the senior director of the September House Senior
Center. She was also a member of Shiloh Evangelical Lutheran
Church.
She is survived by a son, Kim Kable, husband of Mary
Anne, of Crownsville, Md. and a brother, G. Robert Eagle of
Brunswick, Md. She was preceded in death by a daughter, Mary
E. Kable.
Mrs. Kable willed her body to the Humanity Gifts Registry program. A

Memorial Hospital. He was born January 28, 1922 in
Frederick, Md., the son of George Washington Wenner, Sr. and
Violet Hickman Wenner.
He was a retired engineer with the B&O Railroad with 41
years of service. He was a member of St. Francis of Assisi
Catholic Church and The Knights of Columbus. He was a
veteran of World War II serving the US Army Air Forces.
He is survived by four daughters, Mary Calhoun Rice and
husband Calvin of Silver Spring, Md., Sally Ann Lachina and
husband Tim of Cleveland, Ohio, Therese Pearrell and husband
David of Knoxville, Md., Bridget Wenner and husband Jody
Williams of Harpers Ferry, W.Va.; three sons, George W.
Wenner III and wife Katryn of Glen Bernie, Md., Michael

Born January 1, 1930, she was a daughter of the late
Allen Eugene and Martha Marie Lapole Hawker. Ms Hatcher was
a graduate of Brunswick High School; and worked as a
telephone operator with C&P Telephone Company. She was a
member of the Order of the Eastern Star.
She is survived by her daughter, Sandra L. Rudy, and
husband John, of Boonsboro; four grandchildren, Heather A.

Howard Paul "Buck" Oden, 81, of Brunswick, Md., died Friday,
November 18, 2005 at Frederick Memorial Hospital.
Born December 19, 1923 in Brunswick, he was the son of
the late William "Pete" Oden and Bertha Hammond Oden. He was
a retired boiler maker with the B & O Railroad and a retired
security guard with the IRS in Martinsburg, W.Va. He was a
member of VFW Post 10421, Loyal Order of Moose Lodge 1582
and Steadman-Kennan Post 96 of the American Legion, all of
Brunswick. He was a veteran of World War II, serving in the
U.S. Marine Corps.
Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Betty Ann Oden at
home; two daughters, Kathy Dinterman and husband Charles Jr.
of Knoxville and Mary Lidie and husband David of Hagerstown;
one son, William "Artie" Oden and wife Karen "Poppy" of
Brunswick; one sister, Janie E. Groves of Charles Town,
W.Va.; six grandchildren, Paula Dinterman, Wendy Remsburg,
Jeff Oden, Johnny Winpigler, Michael Winpigler and Angela
Lidie; eight great-grandchildren; and special friends Bobby
and Frances Eagle of Brunswick.

Bruce E. Boyer, 73 of Frederick, Maryland, passed away
Monday, November 14, 2005 at Homewood at Crumland Farms. He
was the husband of the late Shirley M. Dansberger Boyer who
passed away in May 2005. They were married on June 20, 1953
in Frederick. They were married for 51 years.
Born April 19, 1932 in Frederick, he was the son of the
late W. Blessing and N. Gertrude Boyer.
He has been a member of Trinity United Methodist Church,
Frederick, since 1967. He previously served on many church
committees and he delivered donated clothes to CROP in New
Windsor for over 15 years. He also previously played on the
church softball team.
He enjoyed sports and was an Orioles fan. He was an
avid Rook player.
He graduated from Brunswick High School in 1950 and after
his graduation he was drafted into the Army Signal Corps
during the Korean War from 1952 to 1954. He was stationed at
Camp Gordon, Georgia, and at Fort Wadsford on Staten Island,
New York. He and his late brother Eugene ran the B&B Milk
Transpiration for 12 years. He sold his share of the
business to his brother and went to work at Fort Detrick in
the Accounting Department. After that he then went to work
at N.I.H for four years and later worked at I.R.S. for 1 1Ú2
years. He then drove a tractor trailer for P.I.E. Nationwide
for 18 1Ú2 years where he retired in 1993.
He is survived by a son, Larry Boyer and wife Sheila of
Hagerstown, Md.; two daughters, Diane Woodard of Knoxville,
Md., and Glenna Green and husband Dennis of Woodsboro, Md.;
three granddaughters, Susan, Becky and Kim Woodard; and a
sister, Betty Piper.
He is preceded in death by a brother, Eugene "Gene"
Boyer.

Mrs. Dorothy G. Williams Ayres, 87, of Middletown, died on
Tuesday, November 8, 2005 at Homewood at Crumland Farms,
Frederick. She was the 54-year wife of the late Leonard E.
Ayres who died in 2002.
Born on October 18, 1918, in Brunswick, she was the
daughter of the late William R. and Betty E. Koogle
Williams. Mrs. Ayres was raised by her aunt Bessie Boyer
(her mother's twin sister) and John W. Boyer. After moving
to Middletown in 1980, she attended Pleasant View Church of
the Brethren. Prior to her retirement as the executive
secretary for the chief engineer at the Washington terminal
at Union Station, she lived in Silver Spring for 27 years.
Mrs. Ayres was a very kind and gentle person who looked
forward to visiting with family and friends. She and her
husband enjoyed eating out at fine restaurants.
Surviving are two sisters, Anne Randallette of
Kensington and Bettie Sapp of Fairfield, Pa.; a brother,
Noel Williams of Brunswick; as well as a number of nieces
and nephews including nephew John Hedges and wife Pat of
Walkersville. Mrs. Ayres was preceded in death by an infant
sister, Ruth; sisters Sally Williams and Jane Hedges;
brothers Herschel Williams, William Williams, Donald
Williams and Beachly Williams; and a great niece, Cathy A.
Hedges.

Mr. Robert "Shack" Moyers Shackelford, 61, of Knoxville,
Md., died Thursday, November 3, 2005.
Born in Maryland on October 2, 1944, he was the son of
the late Allen Franklin and Bertha Cooley Shackelford.
Mr. Shackelford was a member of the Loyal Order of the
Moose, the Brunswick Aerie #1136, the American Legion
Steadman-Keenan Post #96 and the Frederick County Humane
Society. One of Shack's biggest pleasures was spending time
with animals. He retired from the B. & O., Chessie System,
as a car inspector.
He is survived by his lifetime companion of 27 years
Sylvia Mullenix; her children William Mullenix and wife
Cindy and Holly Vaughn and husband Rick; his brother Wayne
Shackelford and wife Dixie, all of Knoxville; niece and
nephews Anthony Shackelford, Deborah Shackelford, Thomas
Shackelford Jr. and Allen Shackelford. He was preceded in
death by a brother, Thomas Shackelford.

Born January 9, 1935 in Brunswick, Md., he was the son
of the late Paul William Gaither and the late Mamie Barger
Gaither.
He was a member of Faith Baptist Church, Petersville, Md.
Mr. Gaither was a retired teacher with the Frederick
Board of Education where he taught for more than 20 years.
He taught at TJ High School and Brunswick High School.
He was a member of the Eagles of Brunswick, enjoyed golfing
and loved spending time with his special group of friends.
He was also an avid Maryland Terps fan.
He is survived by a son, Kenneth "Kenny" Hylton and
wife Kathy of Texas; two brothers, Norman "Johnny" Gaither
and wife Helen of Brunswick and Paul "Delphey" Gaither and
wife Betty of Brunswick; four sisters, Pauline Mildred Leach
and husband Leonard of Silver Springs, Md., Freda Naomi
Shriver and husband James of Brunswick, Rita Virginia Webber
of Brunswick, Doris Lorraine Cannon of Frederick, Md.; two
grandchildren, Barbara and Warren Hylton, both of Texas; a
sister-in-law, Charlotte Gaither of Brunswick, numerous
nieces and nephews. He will also be remembered by his large
group of close special friends.
He is preceded in death by two brothers, Benjamin D.
Gaither and Harold D. Gaither and a sister, June Ruth
Keller.
