Briefly What Happened Since Leaving School

Wayne is married to Diane Shewbridge.  After graduation from BHS, Wayne enter the University of Maryland in College Park, and in 1964 attained a BS degree in Agriculture Science and Education.  For the following three years he instructed the agriculture-science program at Wicomico High School in Salisbury, MD.  He married Diane Shewbridge, in May of 1968.  In the early fall of that year, he accepted employment with the University of Maryland Cooperative Extension Service, as a 4-H /Horticulture Associate Agent in Wicomico County.  Later, he returned to his studies at the University and received a Master's Degree in 1974.  Eventually, he became an Agent for the large grain fariner. (Our county is the home of Perdue Farms, so corn  and grains are high growth crops.) Wayne was appointed Director of the Wicomico County office of the University of Cooperative Extension Service in 1984 and enjoyed the position until his retirement in 1997.   Throughout his career, he received various awards, however, three top the list.  The most prestigious award, Excellence in Extension, was awarded in 1976 at a ceremony at the University of Maryland in College Park.  Two awards, voted on by his peers in the state of Maryland, are presented at the annual National Association of County Agriculture Science Agent's Convention held throughout the United States.  The first, the Achievement Award, given to the most promising young agent, he received when he traveled to Billings, Montana, in 1978.  The second, the Distinguished Service Award, given to an individual Agent based on superior performance over an extended period of time, was presented when he attended the convention in Seattle, Washington in 1990.

In 1997, Diane graduated from Salisbury State College attaining a BS degree in Education, with a concentration in Special Education.  She was employed by Wicomico county and taught special needs children of all ages until her retirement in 1996.  Over the years, Wayne have actively maintained interest in hunting and fishing, adding a third and possibly equally favorite interest ... golfing.  He was presented a custom set of Callway clubs at his retirement party--so someone knows I like golp.  Shortly after retirement,.  Wayne purchased a new boat and a new  computer for his wife.  For years he has enjoyed fishing in the surrounding waters of Virginia and Maryland and golfing on the nearby courses.  Wayne and Diane really enjoy the freedom of retirement and the ability to travel, but are always pleased to return to their home and the beautiful Eastern Shore of Maryland.
