Briefly What Happened Since Leaving School

She worked for the U. S. Government for 37 years and retired from the National Institutes of Health in May 1997.  While working at NIR she achieved the position of Contract Specialist/ Contracting Officer and Chief, Research and Development Contracts Section; and received many awards, the several most important being: the Award of Merit for excellence in managing and administering Research and Development Contracts, and the NIH Director's Award for leadership and significant contributions to the contracts program.  Shirley and her husband enjoy traveling.  They have been to Germany many times, Austria, Italy, Canada, Vancouver, several cruises, Hawaii, and visited all but several of the States.  Following retirement she has been busy volunteering as Treasurer at the Grace Episcopal Church in Brunswick, and other church and community supported activities.  In addition, she helps with their son's business,  Gooch Distributing, Joe Corbi's Pizza Kits.  Also she loves to collect Hummels and antiques. This year Shirley was surprised with a BHS scholarship established and named in her honor by her son Jeff.
