Charles Hoopengardner
Joined the US Navy in 1948, spent 7 years, and then shifted over to the USAF. I retired in 1978 with 30 years of service. I was in the Korean War and Vietnam War, and was also in the group that evacuated the United Nations personnel from Haifa Palestine, as it was called in those days. I received the Silver Star for life saving a man from the Mediterranean sea. I got the Bronze Star in Vietnam and was medically evacuated from there because I lost the sight in my left eye, which eventually came back thanks to the U. S. Naval Medical Corps in Chelsea, Mass. |
