On November 8, 1865, Decatur Dorsey, who was born in New London east of Frederick, was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at Petersburg, VA, on July 10, 1864

On December 26, 1839, 1st Lt. George E. Davis, Company D, 10th Vermont Infantry, who was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at The Battle of Monocacy on July 9, 1864, was born in Dunstable, Massachusetts.

On January 22, 1873, Private George Hooker, a native of Frederick, was killed in an engagement with Indians at Tonto Creek, Arizona. He was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his gallantry in the battle.

On February 6, 1865, the actions of Francis M. Smith, a Frederick native, at the Battle of Dabney's Mill, VA, garnered him a Congressional Medal of Honor.

On April 1, 1865, Jacob Koogle, a Frederick native, was a combatant in the Battle of Five Forks in Virginia. On May 10, 1865, he was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his heroism. His citation said he "captured battle flag."

On April 5, 1865, Henry Warfel, a native of Pennsylvania who entered the Union Army at Frederick Junction, captured the Virginia State flag at Paines Crossing (VA). On May 3, 1865, he was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions

On April 23, 1875, Josiah Pennsyl, a Frederick County native and sergeant with Company G, 8th U. S. Calvary, received a Congressional Medal of Honor for his "gallantry in action" at Upper Washita, Texas, on September 11, 1874. (No census record have been uncovered listing the name Pennsyl. Is it possible that this man was a fugitive from Pennsylvania and used the name when he enlisted?)

On May 6, 1843, James Allen, who was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions at The Battle of South Mountain on September 14, 1862, was born in Ireland.  

On May 27, 1892, 1st Lt. George E. Davis, Company D, 10th Vermont Infantry, was awarded a Congressional Medal of Honor for his actions in The Battle of Monocacy on July 9, 1864. He was born December 26, 1839, in Dunstable, Mass
